Measuring AI ROI Beyond Productivity

Time saved is easy to announce and difficult to bank. Enterprise AI value must connect to outcomes the organisation can actually realise.

The time-saved trap

A tool may save ten minutes per task without reducing cost, increasing output or improving quality. The time exists, but the value has not yet been captured.

Four forms of value

AI value can appear as lower unit cost, greater capacity, better decisions or reduced risk. Each requires a different measurement approach and a different operational response.

Count the hidden costs

Licensing is only one part of the investment. Integration, controls, evaluation, training, support, change management and rework can materially affect the economics.

Use a credible baseline

ROI claims are weak when the organisation does not understand current performance. A useful baseline includes volume, cycle time, quality, exceptions and the cost of human intervention.

Measure realised value

The strongest business cases state what will change after productivity improves. Will the team handle more demand, reduce external spend, shorten a customer journey or improve a risk outcome? Without that decision, efficiency remains theoretical.
